Rheinmetall buys 96 Leopard 1A5 tanks from Switzerland for deliveries to Ukraine

Ukraine may receive three more battalions of Leopard 1A5 tanks from Germany.

The German defense concern Rheinmetall is negotiating the acquisition of 96 Leopard 1A5 tanks from Switzerland with a view to the subsequent delivery of these combat vehicles to Ukraine. 96 combat vehicles will allow the Armed Forces to form three tank battalions, which will already pose a rather serious threat, especially since the power of these combat vehicles is at the level of T-72 tanks.

At the moment, it is known that negotiations between the German defense concern and Switzerland are ongoing. At the same time, taking into account data from open sources, about 80 Leopard 1A5 tanks are in combat condition, while another part is in need of repair.

In total, Ukraine will receive about 120 Leopard 1A5 tanks from NATO countries, which can already pose a serious threat. However, apparently, these combat vehicles are unlikely to be able to arrive in Ukraine before the middle of the year, especially since it will take two months only to train crews from among the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to various estimates, today the Armed Forces of Ukraine still have about 500 tanks from among those previously in service with the Ukrainian army and previously supplied by Poland and a number of other countries.
